من ناحية حسني مبارك يعين عمر سليمان رئيس جهاز المخابرات نائب لرئيس الجمهورية، ومن ناحية تانية تعيين الفريق أحمد شفيق رئيس للوزارء وهوا وزير الطيران المدني وإللي كان قائد القوات الجوية لمده ست سنين.

ده بيقول بيقول إن حسني مبارك مش قادر يمسك قبضة كاملة علي النظام دلوقتي ... هوا أنا لوحدي إللي واخد بالي إن الجيش مش مفعل حظر التجوال بأي شكل، أنا حاسس إن فيه حد في الجيش واقف قصاد قرار نزول الجيش لتفعيل حظر التجوال، أنا وجهة نظري إن مبارك بيحاول يعقد أكبر كمية ممكنة من الصفقات مع أكبر عدد من الرؤوس في المؤسسات الأقوي في مصر، ومحاولة منه للحفاظ علي بقايا النظام .... ربنا معاكي يا مصر وربنا يزيح الغمة بقا.

Fire with Fire

"The Downtown Eastside is the oldest neighbourhood in Vancouver; it is also the most run-down.
It is striking that the history of the Downtown Eastside began in destruction and disappearance. In 1886, soon after the city was incorporated, the Great Vancouver Fire swept down on the neighbourhood and razed almost all of it to the ground. The video installation Fire with Fire recalls this troubled period of Vancouver’s history. It also alludes to the neighbourhood’s present conditions by reminding us that many lives have been consumed there, worn down by years of homelessness, drug use, street prostitution, and violence."

The main point here is how the artist thought of the fire itself as part of the history of the neighborhood. It was created using 3 blu-ray players and 3 projectors.

A very promising web application that can fill a gap in (very) light editing and online viewing of AutoCAD DWG files through the cloud.

Urban Cursor

The object, which is shaped as an oversized 3-dimensional computer cursor (pointer), was placed on a square in Figueres, Catalunya during the cultural festival Ingràvid.

Urban Cursor is a project by Danish designer Sebastian Campion.

For me ... this is a very smart way to have a space identity ... and the link between the computer world to the space where the object is hosted is very pleasant.

I Am The City was recorded on May 8 1982. It remained unreleased until it was included on the compilation album "More Abba Gold" in May 1993.
This was one of 7 songs Abba recorded during 1982 for their possible next album after The Visitors, believed likely to be called Opus 10.
The 7 songs were Should I Laugh Or Cry (Sep 1981), You Owe Me One, I Am The City, Just Like That (all May 1982), Cassandra, Under Attack and The Day Before You Came (all August 1982).
However the group unofficially retired at the end of 1982, and the unfinished album was never completed. The unreleased songs eventually appeared as bonus tracks on The Visitors album or on compilation albums.
There has been no definitive reason given for the group's retirement in December 1982. However there is no doubt that the two divorces had taken its toll on the group. Their hearts were no longer in it. During their career they had often said "Abba will carry on as long as we enjoy working together. The day that we are tired of it, we'll stop."
The group's break-up was further hastened by Benny and Bjorn's collaboration with Tim Rice in early 1983 to write songs for the new musical project Chess. The four Swedes were no longer looking in the same direction, it was time to go their separate ways.

uDig is a programming framework built on the Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) and GeoTools, the Open Source Java GIS Toolkit.

Those intrigued by the "GodMode" in Windows 7 may be interested to know that there are many other similar shortcuts hidden within the operating system.

Intended for developers as a shortcut to various internal settings, such features have been around since Vista and even before, according to the head of Microsoft's Windows division, who tells CNET that the so-calledGodMode settings folder uncovered by bloggers is just one of many undocumented developer features included in Windows.

In an e-mail interview, Steven Sinofsky, Windows division president, said several similar undocumented features provide direct access to all kinds of settings, from choosing a location to managing power settings to identifying biometric sensors.

As with the all-encompassing GodMode uncovered by bloggers, these other settings can be accessed directly by creating a new folder with any name (GodMode or otherwise) and then including a certain text string. Sinofsky noted more than a dozen strings create particular settings folders, in addition to the overarching GodMode folder option.

This trend is now making a shift in the way architects present their ideas and interact with their models (using software like Autodesk Revit, ArchiCAD and Vectorworks instead of AutoCAD and Bentley Microstation).

BIM would be a great answer for Architects.

But more recently a new term was coined, CIM or the City Information model, which aims to transform the urban planners way of handling their plans just like architects.
Some little known applications has started to explore the concept of modeling the whole urban environment and how much information can we extract from such model, in essence how the model would reveal relationships previously little known to the planner or very complex to map such relationships.

CityCAD
CityCAD from the British Holistic City Software aims to become the city planners main tool (where they previously relied on GIS systems, AutoCAD drawings or even paper maps and census tables).

CityCAD as a software is more into the space and green planning paradigm, and is currently less into the social, socioeconomic and demographic aspects of the city, but quite frankly these are very complex subjects that need much more research on how to model them and how to turn such issues into solvable questions that a model (and the dataset that we feed into that model) can answer.

CityEngine
CityEngine from Procedural is more into visualizing the 3D city than assisting in the city planning tasks, but a city-optimized visualization tool is very beneficial to urban planners and would bring the city planners some part of the technology that they always wanted, that to visualize the city's current state to better understand it visually, and to visualize the post-plan state that represents their work (to analyze the plan visually).

Some very irrelative point I like about CityEngine is that it uses the Eclipse RCP Platform (which I like but have nothing to do with the software itself).

Other attempts
Maybe one of the older attempts is the The Open Planning Project, it tries to use the Open Source model to create a community of contributers to create an open solution for city planning.

But this list is very incomplete and doesn't touch on the positive aspects of using a systematic way on handling city planning tasks verses the negative impacts using a limited mindset system to solve a very open-ended problem, and the subject needs many more posts other than this one.

Nested Labels in GMail

For all of you who was asking why GMail was using a flat Labels structure instead of the folders structure used universally before, I personally like the labels way of organizing emails and how I can tag a message with multiple labels.

But I was having a hard time using it in Outlook (as connecting my Outlook to my GMail account through IMAP creates a very ugly Label names if I want to manage my email as I usually do inside Outlook), but earlier this month GMail Labs introduced a new Lab, the Nested Labels.

This allows me to use Nested labels to see my labels in the same way I see them in Outlook, it's a great feature for some users who prefers the folders hierarchy way of organizing emails or who need access their GMail accounts through Outlook IMAP access.

يا فرحتي .. 88% من الأسر المصرية مافيهاش حد بيقرأ أصلا ... ده مش معناه إن 22% من الشعب بيقرأ ... ده معناه علي أفضل التقديرات إن فيه بتاع 7~12% من الشعب هوا إللي بيقرب لكتاب.
من النسبة دي بقا فيه 33% بس منهم بيقرأ كتب علمية ... يعني إحنا عندنا نسبة 1% بس تقريبا إللي ليها في قراءة الكتب العلمية ... ده معناه إن من وسط الناس إللي بتشتغل (20% من الناس تقريبا علي قوة العمل) فيه 5% منهم بس بيدور علي إنه يطور نفسه في شغله أو يفهم هوا أصلا بيشتغل في إيه.

I browsed the CCIEs worldwide list and found some interesting numbers, it sheds some light on the distribution of the top networking talent in the field geographically.

First the totals (last updated 2/5/2010):

Naturally, USA is the largest country to have certified CCIEs (being that it is the home country of Cisco and the largest market for its products), but the interesting number is that Asia holds the largest number of CCIEs collectively (given the population numbers), the really surprising omission in this list is India (which comes in the seventh place), it gives it a more realistic perspective of top tech-related talent distribution in developed countries (with China holding about 5 times the CCIEs compared to India).

Here we find that Saudi Arabia holds the largest number of CCIEs, followed by UAE then Egypt, this shows that Egypt (unlike public press from the Government) is not the largest pool of high-tech talent in the Middle East (and its not Israel either, shown here for comparison purposes), but Saudi Arabia and UAE, this might not be true in all of the high-tech segments, but it indicates that the efforts excreted by the Governmental initiatives in Egypt are not that effective in creating a pool of high-end expertise in the field.
Egypt is not even the largest country in Africa to hold CCIEs, South Africa (with 122 CCIEs) is higher in this list.

The iPad uses the same OS as the iPhone but with higher resolution, it means that iPhone Apps are supported.
Many great accessories specifically designed for iPad will be available.

Oracle Sun Acquisition complete

Earlier today, Oracle held an event to outline the road-map of acquisition of Sun Microsystems and the transformation from a software-only company (the third largest already) into a complete systems provider (integrated hardware and software solutions provider) that control each and every part of its ecosystem.

The event talked about many technologies that is affected by the acquisition, like:

Java

JavaFX is the highlight of presentation layer technologies.
Will continue to address Desktop (SE), Enterprise (EE) and Mobile (ME) platforms, and will try to converge the APIs between SE and ME and use JavaFX as the common presentation technology.

Application Server/Java EE

GlassFish will join WebLogic as the Application Server platform for Oracle (positioning it for the Developers and the Open Source community while position WebLogic for the enterprise and mission-critical installations)
GlassFish will continue to be the reference implementation, based on Open Source model, with commercial support for it, parts of it will be ported to WebLogic, most probably it will form the foundation for newer WebLogic releases and powers its Java EE-certified core.
Web Center will be the strategic Portal solution (against Sun GlassFish Web Space)
The JRockit JVM will be positioned on the same support level as the reference HotSpot JVM, most probably is that more interactions between the core-JVM and the JRockit in the upcoming years.

Developer Tools

Oracle JDeveloper will continue to become the premier IDE for Oracle and Java Enterprise Applications (for Database and Java EE based Applications, SOA, and ADF-based applications)
Oracle Pack for Eclipse will continue to be developed to provides integration between Eclipse and Oracle, but no major new offerings (which was expected)
NetBeans will continue to be an Open Source offering, and stay as very wide covering as it is now (for covering the complete Java portfolio) and support for NetBeans Platform will continue.
Support for Hudson, Oracle Team Productivity Center, maven, Subversion, BugZilla, and many other ALM tools to be shared among JDeveloper and NetBeans
The Matisse Visual Forms Editor from NetBeans will be integrated in JDeveloper
SOA & Application Server Adapters will be shared from JDeveloper to NetBeans

Operating Systems

Continue support and development in Solaris and Unbreakable Linux
Higher integration between the Oracle Database and Solaris ZFS

Virtualization

Virtual Box will be continued to be developed and integrated with Oracle VM (to use the same Oracle Virtual Machine template format)
Solaris Logical Domains (LDom) will become Oracle VM for SPARC and managed through Oracle VM management consoles
Oracle VM for x86 will add support for Solaris
Continued support for Solaris Containers and Dynamic Domains (on M Series Servers)
Next version of Oracle VM will include Virtual Iron technology with better APIs and management console
Sun VDI Broker will be continued to be development (including Secure Global Desktop)
Oracle VM Storage Connect and ASM will continue to be used for Storage Virtualization
Open Storage systems will be used for Storage at the hardware and low-level functions

Management

Oracle Enterprise Manager (For managing Database, Middleware, and Applications) and Sun Ops Center (for managing Hardware, OS and Virtualization) will be support for the short-term
Higher connectivity between Enterprise Manager and Ops Center will be developed in the mid-term to allow shared alerts and events, and allow some data to cross applications (12-18 months)
In the long-term, the Enterprise Manager will consume the functionality of Ops Center and become the unified management console of all the Oracle products

Crystal Report Wizard, a new reporting engine is used that should be more robust and have better features and performance.

Mozilla Firefox users:

Click on Tools - Page Info
Click the Media Tab on the Page Info Windows
The media tab will have complete list of Images, CSS Files and Shockwave Flash files that were downloaded by the Firefox browser while loading the page of the website
Scroll down the list and locate the .swf file
Click the “Save As” button. Choose some folder on your hard drive and save the file

Microsoft Internet Explorer users:

Click Tools - Internet Options
In the General Tab, click the Settings button available in the Temporary Internet Files group
Click View Files to open your Temporary Internet Files folder
Click View - Details. Now click View - Arrange Icons By - Internet Address. Depending upon the webpage, there could one or more Flash files (Shockwave Flash Object) under the Internet Address
Once you find the right flash file, right-click and choose Copy. Then paste the .swf file in any other folder,such as My Document

In recent years a new strategy of spreading viruses was used heavily by viruses authors and malware developers, this is autorun.inf-assisted viruses.

The autorun.inf is a simple file that is used to make CD and DVD drives launch their interface applications when inserted to the computer, it has used by virus authors to handle the spreading of their viruses by including an autorun.inf file and a copy of their virus in any drive that gets connected to the victim PC (be it a flash drive, a mobile memory card, a portable harddisk, or even backup media and network shares mapped to drives).

A very simple registry file can be your best defense from those autorun.inf viruses in Windows XP.

All you need to do is to copy and paste the text below into Notepad and save the file as "stop-autorun.reg" anywhere, then double click on the file and accept the message asking to merge changes to the Registry, then restart your computer.

Vectorworks 2010 Released

The latest release of VectorWorks has been released earlier this week, it contains many productivity enhancements, most notably:

The fantastic new 3D snapping environment, adding the the world class 2D snapping that was introduced in 2009 (which was a good addition into an originally very good snapping system in earlier versions), it gives VectorWorks more 3D drafting capacity.
The enhanced utilization of the Parasolid engine to enable many new features like the unified 2D/3D, wall sculpting,improved wall holes and the new powerful stair tool.
The inclusion of the D-Cubed 2D Dimensional Constraint Manager for parametric modeling and improved management of the walls network in the building model.
Improvements in the Hardcape tool, the DTM object, the Grade calculator, and the new symbols content and plants imagery.
The inclusion of VBvisual plants in RenderWorks.
Various minor changes in the drafting, editing, dimensions management and importing/exporting experience.
Various additions to the Machine Design and Spotlight editions of VectorWorks.

This is great news for VectorWorks, it builds on last year decision to use the Parasolid engine to allow for a more robust 3D environment that is much more intuitive and allows for a better 3D drafting package (which is much need in the market right now), in addition to NNA tradition of adding real world improvements and enhancements to its software every release.

مهزلة جديدة تضاف لوزارة الإتصالات إللي ريحتها فاحت قوي و بقت مزعجة أكتر بكتير من فوايدها.

A geometry kernel is the core of any modeling software, it is simply the part of the program that understands geometry and the relationships of the various entities the program allows you to draw (let it be a 2D line, rectangle, polygon, or a 3D cube, 3D polygon, face, mesh or that cool NURBS object you had been creating for 3 days).

The geometry kernel is an indicator of the robustness of the modeling software.

Oracle to Buy Sun, a second look

For some time now, I've been learning parts of the Java Enterprise Edition platform, and what I've seen is a great platform that can be the best-in-class if used properly and if it was easier to learn.

But what I find so much interesting is the multitude of frameworks in the market, two different presentation layer standards (JSP and its successor JSF), many different JSF extension frameworks (Apache MyFaces Tomahawk, Sun Woodstock, ICEfaces, JBoss RichFaces, Apache MyFaces Trinidad, Oracle ADF Faces), other not-in-the-specification frameworks (Tapestry, Struts, Apache Wicket, GWT, Spring MVC and others), many implementations of the JPA standard (the de-facto standard Hibernate, the JPA2 reference implementation EclipseLink, the Oracle TopLink, OpenJPA, and others), many Servlets containers (Tomcat, Jetty and commercial offerings) and various EJB containers, the complete enterprise applications building frameworks as Spring, Seam, and many others.

And that's just for the parts I explored so far.

Also the desktop front suffers from less overlap/duplication with 2 GUI widgets framework (the Java standard Swing, and the IBM/Eclipse influenced SWT framework) and their respective applications framework (the Swing Application Framework and the Eclipse Rich Client Platform).

The same is true in the IDEs front, we just don't have 2 major IDEs (Eclipse and NetBeans), but we have many commercial IDEs built over the Eclipse foundation (many of the IBM Rational offerings, RedHat/JBoss Developer Studio, Embarcadero/Borland JBuilder), some commercial offerings (most notably the IDEA IntelliJ) and the Oracle free (but less fair to play with the market standards) JDeveloper.

At first I just thought that is a waste of brain cycles and time of a talented and very smart community, and not just how many things has been done and redone and then-again redone, it is just plain confusing to try to learn or even design an application while taking in consideration the pros and cons of each framework/standard/application/library and presents a real challenge for a topic that could be easier to penetrate and learn, also such duplication creates many different-and-separated camps of experienced developers in the market.

But then I found that the real reason all these people are still in the Java camp is because of the ability to do things just as you want it (just think of any barely-reasonable way to do enterprise applications and chances are that a framework is out there waiting for you to be used) and the many different ideologies behind each framework (ranging from heavily-closed source and commercial frameworks to BSD-style open source frameworks) and that the ability of the Java community to re-invent the wheel when desired easily a key feature for the backing of virtually all the big software companies in the world (except Microsoft of course, not because it was uninterested, but because it wanted to play it too-hard with the market).

How such community will be affected by the Oracle acquisition is yet to be seen, but I'm not so optimistic as before, the Java EE may grow better under the Oracle umbrella, but it may be less free and less open to the community, which is exactly what the Java EE community doesn't need, the backing of the various software companies and open source communities what makes Java a market leader and the biggest player in the enterprise applications market.

I hope that Oracle understands the chemistry between Java and freedom (or it keeps enough Sun executives to keep such freedom possible) and that only a multiplayer game is a game worth playing.

New Global DEM released from METI and NASA

The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) of Japan and the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at 29th of June jointly released Version 1 of the ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM).

Some information about the ASTER instrument:

Carrier Spacecraft: USA NASA’s Terra
Launch date: December 1999
Stereoscopic capability: Along-track (no need to pass multiple times over the same area to collect stereo image data)
Bands available for DEM generation: VNIR (near infrared spectral band)
DEM base-to-height ratio: 0.6
Spatial resolution: 15m in the horizontal plane
Single ASTER VNIR scene size: About 60 km-by-60 km ground area (4,100 samples by 4,200 lines)

Some information about the ASTER GDEM:

Land surface coverage: between 83°N and 83°S
Grid cell size: 1 arc-second (30 m)
Tiles Format: GeoTIFF
Number of tiles: 22,600
Single tile size: 1°-by-1°
Coordinate System Type: Geographic (Lat/Long coordinates)
Earth Model: WGS84/EGM96 geoid
Collection Date: 2000-2009
Vertical accuracy estimate: 20 meters (at 95 % confidence)
Horizontal accuracy estimate: 30 meters (at 95 % confidence)
Area of missing data: Areas with constant cloud coverage

This mission is remarkable because it involved the automated processing of the entire 1.5-million-scene ASTER archive, it took approximately one year to complete production of the beta version of the ASTER GDEM using a fully automated approach.

The process included:

Stereo-correlation to produce 1,264,118 individual scene-based ASTER DEMs
Cloud masking to remove cloudy pixels
Stacking all cloud-screened DEMs
Removing residual bad values and outliers
Averaging selected data to create final pixel values
Correcting residual anomalies
Partitioning the data into 1°-by-1° tiles.

Previously, the most complete Global DEM publicly available was the SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission), it has an 80% land coverage (between 60°N and 57°S). The ASTER GDEM expands coverage to 99%; also the SRTM data has a grid cell size of 3 arc-seconds (90 m) outside of the USA borders, despite being captured at 1 arc-second, it was later averaged before being publicly released.

I hope that NASA would release the full resolution 1 arc-second data of the SRTM DEM globally to augment the ASTER GDEM data and allow for a unified DEM which benefits from the ability of the Radar to collect data in the places constantly covered by clouds.

I currently don't know the shoreline data used to outline the DEM data, but I hope they release it as well or use a publicly available one, such as the NGA Prototype Global Shoreline (PGS) data.

METI and NASA marks version 1 of the ASTER GDEM as “experimental” or “research grade”, but the size and accuracy of the data makes such an initial release a very good step toward a highly enhanced and accurate Global DEM very near.

JDeveloper and Oracle Java

I've started to use JDeveloper the last few days, and as a Java novice that is drowning in the sea of acronyms and the multitude of implementations in the market of Java Enterprise Edition, I find the JDeveloper as the solution to any Java Developer looking for an Oracle-centric IDE (that is half open and half tightly-coupled with various Oracle flagship applications).

As Oracle will now have the upperhand in the Java world, I assume that going the Oracle way would not bring the best value to the Java EE applications, but would bring the best integration of the various Java technologies.

I've just finished my first 2 Day Guide to Oracle Administration (or 2 Day Oracle DBA), I've managed my first Oracle Installation and gone over all the steps, but this beast is too big to grok anytime soon, and I assume I'll need some months (to speak optimistically) to gain an entry-level knowledge of this platform, but I think it is worth the effort.

Oracle to Buy Sun

Earlier yesterday, Oracle has announced that it has reached an agreement to purchase Sun Microsystems for $9.50 per share, making it a $7.4 billion deal, by this acquisition, Oracle will have a complete end-to-end product line that focuses on data and business requirements in the largest enterprises.

Oracle has been trying to enter the hardware business lately by its HP Oracle Database Machine, which is essentially a complete rack of HP hardware and Oracle Software, but this last acquisition will bring Oracle completely into the major hardware business, this will give it a complete line of products, from the largest UltraSPARC supercomputers Sun creates and maintains, to its mid-range SPARC servers, , to its Blade servers and high-density computing, to its carrier-grade Netra servers, to storage-oriented servers, to the entry-level x86/x64 servers, down to workstations and thin-clients; not to mention a complete processor architecture and alliances with both the major x64 market players, Intel and AMD.

Oracle will also get a complete software stack to build complete systems using its Oracle software, this includes the Solaris/OpenSolaris operating system, which is (quoted from the Oracle press release) the largest platform Oracle is deployed on, the bleeding-edge ZFS storage engine, the Lustre filesystem which is geared toward clustered supercomputers, and engineering expertise Sun have for building such large-scale installations.

But the crown jewel in this purchase is definitively the Java platfrom, Oracle has been the third-largest contributor to the Java environment (after Java's Own creator Sun, and IBM with its Eclipse/Rational product-line and its WebSphere middleware), Oracle has its Oracle Fusion Middleware product-line which it enhanced by its acquisition to the BEA WebLogic product line, its JDeveloper IDE product, it contribution to the Eclipse Foundation, and its native support for Java inside its core Database product-line.

Oracle will also benefit from Sun earlier acquisition to MySQL, which fosters its position as the major (and mostly the only) player in Linux database business (keeping only the relatively smaller player PostgreSQL) and IBM current offerings, DB2/Informix which focuses more on IBM integrated services/platform than being an active player in the Linux market.

Oracle does have overlapping products with the Sun portfolio, like its GlassFish Application Server (which overlaps with Oracle Application Server and BEA WebLogic), its NetBeans IDE (which doesn't completely overlap, but somehow, with the JDeveloper and the contributions to the Eclipse foundation), its MySQL database product (which is not positioned as a direct competitor to the Oracle database, but none the less it has managed to grab a good market share in the Internet-centric database field), and its open source VirtualBox virtualization software (which overlaps with the Oracle VM product, which is based on Xen).

This is no where the overlap that was to be there if the deal with IBM has managed to succeed, it would give the new IBM overlaps in its complete hardware business (which Sun competes across the complete line), its processor business (the POWER vs. SPARC), its Operating Systems business (Solaris vs. AIX & z/OS), its development tools business (NetBeans vs. Rational/Eclipse), its application server business (GlassFish vs. WebSphere), and its database business (MySQL vs. IBM DB2/Informix); this would leave IBM with just one piece of software it really wants from Sun (beside its server market-share), which is of course the Java platform, and quite frankly, it is not worth the $7.4 billion Sun was asking for (which is the same price Oracle agreed on to complete its acquistion).

I was worried that such a merger/acquisition would make too much mess in the Sun portfolio, but now as Oracle is the new Sun, I'm not so worried; Oracle will benefit directly from the hardware business, the processors business, the Operating Systems business, the Java platform, the office productivity products; and will have minimal impact on the development tools and the virtualization products; the remaining parts where Oracle will probably have a major impact is the database business and the application servers business (which are minor parts in the Sun products line).

We will see how such acquisition will result in the near future, and how the open sourcing of many products of Sun will shape the future of such products.

وكبرت أنا إلى حد أنه حتى لو ظلت الكومة ما كنت وأستطيع أن ألقي بنفسي فيها.وكل ما أستطيعه الآن هو أن أوصي زوجتي بأن لا تجمع الغسيل المنشور إلا بعد العصر , وبزعم أنني أساعدها في جمع الغسيل ألتقط قطعة منه وأغرق وجهي فيها.

NTRA Issues GPS Related Decisions

The Egyptian National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) issued new decisions that essentially lefts the ban on the GPS devices for civilian uses.

The decisions allow the import of cars equipped with GPS and navigation programs, the new rules also permit the import of GPS-enabled mobile phones, computers and other devices with civilian applications.

The major use of GPS devices that is still restricted is the Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) services, or Fleet Management Services, this use while technically possible now, will need to be authorized by NTRA according to specific regulations and in coordination with the concerned security authorities.

Main features in VectorWorks

Many friends asked me about all the fuzz around VectorWorks, and why I talk about it a lot, so I thought to list some of the main functions I like about VectorWorks:

A complete 2D and 3D package, unlike many applications that work around BIM and smart handling of the design process, it handles the basic 2D drawing and 3D modeling with ease and with little rough edges in this part; mostly because it is one of the earlier applications in the market, so it perfected this part in the earlier releases before focusing on the smart-part of model designing.
Smart environment, it does not just understand the distinction between 2D and 3D (a Hybrid Environment in VectorWorks words), it also understands the higher level objects that can create the advanced designs, for not only the architectural designs, but for site planning and urban designing too.
The SmartCursor and the floating Data bar, it is like the AutoCAD OSnaps (which I consider the best feature in AutoCAD), but works in a way that is somehow more intuitive.
The Solid Modeling, its ability to keep the source solids in the Boolean operations and handle them as a group is much more intuitive than the AutoCAD way of handling the solids, also its (mostly) parametric editing of the basic 3D objects gives the application a very flexible environment that doesn't rely only on the editing tools available (now more powerful in VectorWorks 2009 with the Parasolid kernel).
The site modeling, it is one of the premier applications in modeling the land, while staying easy enough for using such features; I'm used to the GIS way of modeling parts of the earth and its usage of advanced tools to take care of data entry and data modification; but the way VectorWorks construct, model, modify, and visualize the site is way too powerful that it fills all of my needs in this area, and I think it is very intuitive compared to AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Plants management, this is an area where no major CAD application can beat VectorWorks, its plants tools and its built-in extensible Plants database can be the ultimate tool for the Landscape architect.
Its ability to import and export SHP files and its recognition of georeferenced tools, this is the way I expect CAD applications to integrate with any GIS system (well, maybe support for direct databases connection and data query and visualization inside the CAD is better, but that makes it a GIS package too, not just a CAD application).
The RenderWorks engine, it is not V-Ray or 3dsmax, but it is the best thing that I know of that is part of a CAD (it is not really built-in, you have to pay for it, but it is still very integrated inside the VectorWorks application that I consider it to be an optional built-in feature).
The integration with Cinema 4D, it opens the gate for VectorWorks to real 3D rendering and advanced 3D modeling, I just hope NNA creates a tool to integrate with Maxwell Render and maybe the best of all, integrate V-Ray inside VectorWorks with optional plug-in.
The architectural objects and symbols, while they are not as advanced as ArchiCAD tools, its integration with the complete 2D/3D functionality in VectorWorks makes it a better choice when designing in the non-western countries, where the design patterns are slightly different and may not be supported in the built-in customization capabilities in the application.
The drawing structure scheme, the usage of both design layers and classes is conceptually more correct than using layers to arrange and classify the drawing objects (and more generic than using the layers and stories concept that is used in ArchiCAD); I also like the design layers concept, while I think it would be better named just Layers and the sheet layers would be named Sheets, but whatever, after a week or so inside VectorWorks, you will get used to the different terms.
Many other features that gives me the feeling that the VectorWorks developers are more focused on usability than having to release a product every year (like what Autodesk likes to do, just for the sake of upgrading and keeping a stream of cash in their pockets, whether their software deserves or not).

Bars

Menu bar: Contains pull-down menus that access the VectorWorks commands.
View bar: Contains buttons and pull-down menus that control the view in various ways.
Tool bar: Displays the various modes of the active tool. The bar also displays mode information and accesses the tool preferences, if any.
Data bar: Displays information such as X and Y data, length, and angle depending on the tool and on the action being performed.
Message bar: Displays tool explanations, undo messages, minor alerts, and a progress bar (when applicable).

Palettes

Basic palette: Includes all the 2D and 3D tools needed for the creation and editing of the basic drawing objects.
Tool sets palette: Includes the advanced tools for the different functionality in VectorWorks products, it varies from product to the other; the displayed here is the Designer palette.
Object Info palette: Displays the properties of the selected object(s).
Navigation palette: Displays the structure of the active document, including its Classes, Design Layers, Sheet Layers, Viewports, Saved Views, and References.
Attributes palette: Contains a selection of colors, fills, pens, and other object attributes.
Constraints palette: Contains the SmartCursor (or snapping) controls that can be toggled on or off.
Resource Browser: Accesses the various resources in the file (gradient fills, hatch patterns, image fills, record formats, scripts and script palettes, symbols and symbol folders, worksheets, textures, and backgrounds) both inside the active document and in external documents (that are part of the VectorWorks library or a personal library).
Visualization: Accesses all lights and cameras in the file, this palette is available only when RenderWorks is running.

Document Body

Drawing area: This is the open portion in the middle of the window where drawings are created; it includes both the print area and the space that surrounds it.
Print area: Within the drawing area, a gray border defines the print area, if shown. Only the objects that are included within the print area are printed. The print area is divided into pages; each page equals a physical sheet of paper to be printed.

Windows and Macintosh

There is a small difference in the behavior in the application windows under Windows and under the Mac OS X, under the Windows environment the application is running in a single main window where all of the sub items are inside it and the palettes are part of it (in a configuration known as MDI window), this allows most of the palettes to dock at the corners of the window.

But under the Macintosh environment there is no such thing as a main window for the application, this gives a slightly lower ability to use the palettes (not being able to dock them to the document window), but gives a slightly higher ability to use multi-monitor configuration.

What is VectorWorks?

VectorWorks is a world-leading 2D/3D CAD application that includes all the tools and technology you need for precision drafting and designing, it is also a complete design and production management system that enables the engineer to efficiently and easily construct, model and represent their designs.

VectorWorks Products

VectorWorks is actually 6 products based on the same foundation: Fundamentals, Architect, Landmark, Spotlight, Machine Design, and Designer.

VectorWorks Fundamentals

VectorWorks Fundamentals is an excellent 2D and 3D package that includes all the tools to efficiently design and represent 2D and 3D models; it can be compared to AutoCAD, but it is much more intuitive and easy to learn and use, it is also cheaper ($1300 compared to $4000) and a much better offering than the AutoCAD LT, while similarly priced, it is a 2D-only package with no AutoLISP/VBA functionality, and quite frankly, I hate it.

VectorWorks includes extensive symbol libraries, default drawing resources, built-in database and worksheet capabilities to help track costs and materials. A host of import and export formats makes it easy to share files.

VectorWorks Architect

VectorWorks Architect is an important design tool for the architecture work, it allows the designer to design and present architecture models and drawings, it allows a very easy way to create accurate and precise buildings using walls, doors, windows, roofs, slabs, columns, and all of the building parts that create a complete model of the building.

The Architect competes with Graphisoft ArchiCAD, Autodesk Revit Architecture, and Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture; I think the 3D parametric properties of the ArchiCAD's library and the pre-assigned textures is somehow better than the properties of the built-in tools in VectorWorks, but still better than the AutoCAD Architecture tools and objects, and the lack of layers in Revit makes it less suitable in terms of generic CAD features.

VectorWorks Landmark

VectorWorks Landmark (I think) is the best program for the urban designer and site architects for modeling and handling landscape and site engineering projects; it understands the concepts of site models, DTM models, plants, hardscape, irrigation plans, roads, parking, and miscellaneous items associated with land.

The ability of Landmark to understand the site as intelligent objects inside its environment is unique among BIM applications that mostly use site models as an accessory to the building model; and it is not like Autodesk Civil 3D, where is more targeted towards civil engineers and site modeling more than site designing and site planning.

VectorWorks Spotlight

VectorWorks Spotlight is the de-facto standard in light designing projects for the theaters, it includes a huge lighting library, coupled with the 2D and 3D capabilities of VectorWorks, it is one of the more advanced tools and one of the most sophisticated in the industry.

VectorWorks Machine Design

VectorWorks Machine Design is concerning with the designing and modeling of the machines, I think it is one of the more intuitive tools in the market, but I have no familiarity in this field.

VectorWorks Designer

VectorWorks Designer is the ultimate edition of VectorWorks; it combines the functionality of all the VectorWorks editions in one interface under the same umbrella, it is priced under $3000 and includes the RenderWorks engine for advanced 3D visualization inside VectorWorks (RenderWorks can be purchased as an option for any of the above products).

Earlier in the middle of September, Nemetschek North America quietly (at least for me) launched its latest release of VectorWorks, the 2009 release is most notably one of the major releases in the VectorWorks line, as it debuts the usage of the world-class Parasolid 3D modeling engine from Siemens PLM, which is stated as one of the most advanced modeling engines in the market, it allows VectorWorks to become 4x to 5x speedier in the 3D modeling operations and to become 2x to 3x speedier in rendering the Viewports inside VectorWorks.

Parasolid is used in many 3D packages including MicroStation (from Bentley), SolidWorks (from Dassault), and NX (from Siemens).

Update 29/12/2008: It seems that the integration of Parasolid into VectorWorks is very important, because the VectorWorks core is single-threaded, which makes it a second class citizen in our new multi-core CPUs world, while Parasolid is multi-threaded and benefits from the multi-core technologies in modern CPUs.

This means that VectorWorks has two major components that are multi-threaded, its 3D kernel and its RenderWorks engine; this should give VectorWorks the needed power in 3D modeling and visualization.

Managing the Layout of the Workbench in Eclipse RCP

Setting the layout of the Workbench in any Eclipse RCP application can be a daunting task if your application needs any control over the placement of views and editor area that is not directly exposed through the RCP interface.

But some techniques can be used to provide (relatively) more control over the layout by managing the perspective settings and hinting the view size.

In the perspective

In the class implementing IPerspectiveFactory (the class that implements the Perspective to the org.eclipse.ui.perspective extension point), you can:

Enable or disable the Editor area, if you are to design an Editor, this setting should be kept to true

layout.setEditorAreaVisible(true);

You can also use the Fixed Layout option, this removes he ability o maximize and minimize views and the editor area (through the min/max buttons and through the double clicking on the view title.

This keeps the ability to resize single views (as if they are included in Resize composites, but without the ability to reorder the views, or stack them or minimize them as fast views)

layout.setFixed(true);

The order of the views to be added decides who gets the full layout to take part of it and what views get the remaining of the layout to take further parts of it

Views

Views can be standard views, stand-alone views or fast views:

A stand-alone view is a special kind of view that cannot stack other views with it, and can optionally enable/disable the title bar

layout.addStandaloneView(MyOwnView.ID, true, IPageLayout.TOP, 1f, editorArea);

Standard view is a simple view in the Workbench that can be docked, stacked, minimized, maximized or detached inside the Workbench window

layout.addView(SampleView.ID, IPageLayout.LEFT, 0.5f, editorArea);

Fast views are shortcuts to the actual views put in the toolbar at the bottom of the Workbench window and shares the status bar if visible

layout.addFastView(SampleView.ID, IPageLayout.DEFAULT_VIEW_RATIO);

Views and hinting its size (in Eclipse 3.4 and upwards)

By implementing the ISizeProvider Interface in the ViewPart class that is creating the view, you can get the view to set its minimum and maximum size, given that the view doesn't get docked into other views (which can be easily made by using stand-alone views), the simplest implementation would be:

Branching and Merging in Subversion

Subversion (and Subclipse as my current UI to it) has a somehow tricky branching and merging technique, I've tried it for some time and the only way I managed to do it is by:

The main trunk is branched using Team -> Branch/Tag (this initiates a Commit which is recorded in context to the branch, not in the main trunk; you can get its revision number by showing the history of the project linking to the branch or the main repository in the SVN Repositories view, but not the project linking to the trunk)

You can select to switch to the branch in the same project, or keep this project linked to the trunk and checkout another project linking to the new branch
Edits can be done independently from both the trunk and the branch where the commits don't conflict (as they are in fact different files)
When you need to incorporate a change that has been done in the trunk but not in the branch (like a bug fix or to keep the branch up with the trunk), the Merge command can be used:
- Select the project containing the branch
- Select Team -> Merge
- In the "From" group, press the select button beside the revision number
- In the available revisions select the revision you branched at (the Commit of the branching order)
- In the "From" group, press the Select button beside the URL text box
- Select the trunk folder
- In the "To" group, check "Merge to HEAD revision" to incorporate all the changes done in the branch, from its creation to the current most up-to-date revision
- This will create a modified working set locally (the project linked to the branch will need to be committed)
- At this stage, you need to update the project first (using Team -> Update) before the modified files can be committed
- Finally, select Team -> Commit to publish the merged files into the branch
In the reverse direction, when you need to merge back changes from the branch into the trunk (where edits has been done in both the branch and the trunk), all you need to do is to select the project containing the trunk and select the branch as your "From" URL, you still need to select the revision number of the Branching commit (for all the changes you committed to the branch to be included and not just the newer or latest ones)

I find a special shortcoming in the Subversion branching and merging system; when merging, it doesn't merge the changes in its revision number, meaning that if you did changes to the branched files in revisions 105,106,107 & 108 to the branch, and then merged and committed the changes to the trunk in revision 109, you will only see all of the changes suddenly occur to the file in revision 109 and later, not in an incremental way as it should be.

This is not a major shortcoming, as you can always return to the branch and check its changes in the revisions it was committed in, but it is still an unintuitive solution.

Experiments with Subversion

I've been experimenting with Subversion, and it turned out to be great tool, even for single developers, where its ability to indefinitely remember changes and track versions is indispensable to any software project that is more than a small hack.

Also the ability to work with it is very important to contribute to any major open source software (especially the ones I'm currently interested in as uDig, PostGIS and OpenLayers).

I'm using Subclipse and TortoiseSVN to handle the communication from and to my SVN repository, Subclipse is particularly easy and handles all of my needed functions with tight integration to the Eclipse platform; I've tried the Subversive and it didn't seem to recognize the SVN connector library (neither JavaHL nor SVNKit), I think the Subversive plug-in is more feature-rich, but until further attempt, Subclipse is very stable to me.

I've also read about Git, Mercurial and Bazaar, and I think the Distributed Version Controlling Systems are really interesting, but they seem to not fit so well with my development model, you can check about some notes about them here and here.

uDig 1.1.0 released

uDig 1.1.0 is released according to uDig and How 2 Map blogs, I find this application very interesting, as it holds a great potential in becoming the #1 GIS desktop application in the Open Source arena, because I think it is the most user friendly interface and bacause of its programability.

مش من زمان أوي ... كان لما تييجي تقابل شاب صايع أو بلطجي ... كنت تلاقيه متفاخر أوي بموضوع إنه أخذ ست شهور جنحة في اللي كح في وشه .... و لا إعترض يوم على طريقه نظره لمرات أخينا، بس الموضوع ده إنخفض شوية بعد مابقا إن السجن مش للجدعان إنما السجن للمصريين جميعاً (و ده توحيد إجتماعي يشكر عليه اسيادنا في الداخلية)

المهم ظهرت بارقة جديدة من الأمل لإحياء هذا التراث المصري بس لنوعية جديدة من المصريين، بقت فيه جريمة جديدة إسمها إهانة رئيس الجمهورية و هي المرادف اللغوي للعيب في الذات الملكية (في الزمن جمهوري الإسم ديكتاتوري المعني ده) و أعتقد إن عقوبتها سنة.

أنا كنت بتابع أخر أخبار قضية إبراهيم عيسي و هوا بيحاول يخرج من التهمة العجب إللي هما ملزقنهاله (و إللي هيا أصلاً كانت أمل .. مش خبر ... يعني بزمتك مش كل واحد كان نفسه الإشاعة إللي هما بيتكلموا عنها تبقي حقيقة؟ و نخلص بقا)

المهم ..... بعد إبراهيم عيسي ماهاينطس السنة المتينة بعد كل المحاميين و الجلسات هاتلاقية في كل الجرايد و المقالات بتاعته بيتفاخر بأنه أول من أخذ في الريس سنة.... و بأن الوطنية لا تكتمل إلا لما تأخذ في الريس سنة!!!!

والله يعني أنا بشكر سيادة الرئيس و السادة القائمين علي القوانين و الأحكام إللي قدروا يرجعوا للتراث المصري عادة مصرية أصيلة.

The Eclipse RCP - 3 - Launching configuration

A Launch configuration in Eclipse defines the environment under which your application will be started, e.g. compiler flag, plug-in (classpath) dependencies etc.

Select your plugin.xml -> Run As -> Run Configurations

On the tab Arguments you should add the parameter -consoleLog. This will send error message of your Eclipse RCP application to your Eclipse development IDE.

On the Arguments tab, you will find also the -os -ws -arch -nl arguments associated with ${target} variables, they can be edited form Window -> Preferences -> Plug-in Development -> Target Platform

On the Plug-ins Tab select "Validate plug-ins prior to launching". This will check if you have all required plug-ins in your launch configuration.

The Eclipse RCP - 2 - Create your first RCP application

Download the package "Eclipse for RCP/Plug-in Developers" from the webpage of eclipse (www.eclipse.org).
Extract, and Run.
In Eclipse select File -> New Project.
From the list select Plug-In Project.
Give your RCP plug-in a name, "MyFirstRCP", click Next
Select "Yes" at the question "Would you like to create a rich client application", click Next
Select "RCP application with a view", as a template, click Next
Type the name of the Title Bar in the "Application window title" field, and Select "Add branding", click Finish

To Launch the application, double-click on the file "MANIFEST.MF". You should see an editor and the tab "Overview" should be selected. Click the link "Launch an Eclipse Application".

The Platform
The Eclipse RCP is a platform, where no functionality is implemented in it; its sole purpose is to manage the plug-ins, where everything in the program is done using the plug-ins.
The plug-ins implement everything, from the menu bar, to the status bar, to the main toolbar, to the views (or panels), to the Editors (which may not be editing anything, but they are the main focus of the program), to auxiliary functionality like software automatic update and help and the management of long-running background operations; these plug-ins are the heart-and-soul of any Eclipse RCP-based program.
The basis for this architecture is the runtime environment of Eclipse which is based on the OSGi Alliance. Eclipse used the OSGi reference implementation Equinox to run upon. The Plug-in concept of Eclipse is the same as the bundle concept of OSGi.

Minimum Requirements
As a minimum, a RCP application requires:

Main program or Application (org.eclipse.core.runtime.applications extension point)
Workbench Advisor (invoked from the Application handler, it sets the default Perspective, invokes WorkbenchWindowAdvisor which configures the default Main window state and subsequently invokes ActionBarAdvisor, which in turn provides one of the ways to configure the Action Bar or the main menu and Cool Bar or the main toolbar)
A Perspective (org.eclipse.ui.perspectives extension point)
A View (org.eclipse.ui.views extension point, views are technically not required for a RCP application, but they are the base interface element)

The RCP application depends on 2 main plug-ins:

org.eclipse.core.runtime
org.eclipse.ui

Plug-ins Architecture
The RCP architecture is based on the concept of extension-points, which a plug-in provides so that any other plug-ins can contribute functionality to it in the form of extensions, e.g. you can easily provide your menu items in the Action Bar (an extension point provided by the org.eclipse.ui plug-in) by implementing extensions that connect to the org.eclipse.ui.menus extension point and provide their own implementation. In general an extension point can be used several times (either by the same plug-in or by other plug-ins).
The plug-in architecture is based on 2 configuration files (or manifests) that describe the behavior of the plug-in, "MANIFEST.MF" and "plugin.xml", by double clicking on any of them, Eclipse provides a graphical editor of the files contents.
The plug-in manifest ties all the code and the resources together, the OSGi bundle manifest is stored in "MANIFEST.MF", while the Eclipse specific parts are stored in "plugin.xml".

The Eclipse RCP Platform

I've started in my quest to learn the Eclipse RCP Platform, the Java Rich Client Platform built on the Eclipse foundation softwareand using the Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT).

While I think that Swing and the Swing Application Framework (JSR 296) would be a more pure Java approach, I personally prefer the Eclipse RCP approach for large scaled projects, where it can provide high degree of modularity to the system (this can be also achieved in the NetBeans Platform, but I prefer the look and feel of the Eclipse-based applications).

Also I think that the NetBeans IDE is better in the more broad Java picture, where I assume it is better in handling the Java EE and Java ME applications and provide a higher of community participation in its code base (this may not be correct, but I got this impression, maybe because I was a close watcher for the NetBeans news earlier than Eclipse).

But the Eclipse RCP won because of its large base of implemented applications, one for example was the main reason that I tried the Eclipse RCP in the first place, uDig, the internet-friendly desktop GIS application, and i don't know until now if I'm gonna to run inside it with my plug-ins, or that I will embed its plugins inside my application(s).

Also the Eclipse SWT library is more responsive and native-looking than Swing (personally I love the Java Metal look and feel, but thats just me, everybody else hates it).

So, in the next few days, I will start posting about my findings in the Eclipse RCP world and the Java world in general.

في تمام الساعة العاشرة و النصف من مساء يوم العشرين من شهر يوليو لعام 2008 الموافق السابع عشر من رجب للعام 1429 هجرية، تأكدت الأنباء التي كانت تتردد منذ بضعة أيام حول الحدث الأهم في عام 2008.

هذا الحدث يعتبر بمثابة نقلة نوعية و هامة في تاريخ التعليم المصري (و العربي بشكل عام)، هذا الحدث الذي لن يتكرر في التاريخ و ربما يبدأ التأريخ الجديد للواقع المصري باستخدامه.

في هذا التاريخ تم إعلان نتيجة طلبة العام الخامس من كلية التخطيط الإقليمي و العمراني، و التي تتضمن نتيجة 141 من طلبة التخطيط، يعتبر أبرزهم هذا العام .... الطالب أحمد محمد هشام، الذي إستطاع و بمجهود إنساني و ذهني كبير ، و بدعوات من كل من قابله في هذا المشوار الطويل أو عرفه من قريب أو بعيد أن يصبح حديث الأوساط العلمية و السياسية و الفنية، و ذلك بعد أن شكل قضية تخرجه موضوع من أهم الموضوعات المطروحة علي الساحة العربية و التي لا نبالغ إن قلنا أن الوضع في لبنان قد فقد جزأاً هاماً من إستقراره بسبب سخونة هذه القضية و تضارب الآراء و الأقوال فيها.

إن هذه القضية التي تعبر و بكل صدق عن الموقف الحالي لمنظومة التعليم المصرية و لم تستطع أن تكون أقل من قضية التوريث أو أزمة رغيف العيش و مستقبل المنطقة ببقاء الإحتلال الأمريكي بالعراق و العلاقات المتوترة بين الدول العربية و إسرائيل، هذه القضية التي ستبقي أعواماً و أعوام في ذهن الشارع المصري و العربي.

تخرج الطالب بتقدير جيد لمشروع التخرج و تقدير عام مقبول، و أستطاع أن يجتاز هذه المرحلة الإنسانية بنجاح، ليستحق من كل من عرف هذه النتيجة كلمة واحدة:

"كفارة يا شيخ"

Holes in ArcGIS Polygons from AutoCAD

It remained a mystery to me how Polygons can be exported from CAD to ArcGIS with holes (or donuts, if you prefer to call it so) until recently.

I read in the GIS CAD Interoperability blog that when ArcGIS encouters a block, it considers all the objects inside it to create a multipart object (that is multipart polygon, multipart polyline or multipoint) which is exactly how ArcGIS stores its polygons with holes.

That means that to create a polygon with hole in AutoCAD you only need to select the polygons creating the polygon and its holes and make a block, this will tell the ArcGIS when importing CAD data that it is a single object with multipart geometry.

رداً علي ما نشر في مدونة سكة راتب باشا .... أردت أن أضع رأيي بجانب أصدقائي الذين عانوا من المفكر بمؤخرته .... صديقنا المشترك الذي أجمع الجميع علي إبداعاته الفكرية.
الجديد في الموضوع إنني لا أوافق علي إطلاق إسم تفكير علي ما يخرج من صديقنا .... فالتفكير له قواعد من أهمها المنطقية (سواء إتفقت مع هذا المنطق أم إختلفت) و لكن أن تقول الشيئ و ضده في جملة واحدة فهذا ما أتفق الجميع علي خلوه من المنطق.
تبقي مسألة ماهية الخارج من قريحة و مخيلة صديقنا و التي ترتبط بمبدأ أن صديقنا "إضحك عليه قبل كده" و التي تظهر عندما يحدثك بمنطق أول من أبدي رأيه في أي موضوع أمامه، يعني أنا لو تحدثت أمامه عن الحتمية التاريخية لزوال الدلتا تنيجة الإحتباس الحراري في كوكب الأرض، فإنه سيبقي إلي نهاية عمره يتحدث في هذا الموضوع كما أنه لو أصبح مدير عمليات التصدي لهذه المشكلة و المسئول الأول عنها في مصر.
تبقي الطريقة (أو الجماعة لو شئنا الدقة) التي يعتبر صديقنا نفسه حامي حماها و الذائد عن كرامتها .... فأقول له و لشيخ طريقته "يا أخي إتنيل إنت و طريقتك"، فالطريقة التي تقبل بك عضواً فيها لا ترغب في أكثر من المفكرين بمؤخراتهم الذين يمكن عدهم بني أدمين في صندوق الإنتخاب لا أكثر و لا أقل.

iPhone in Egypt ... FINALLY

According to an AppleInsider.com article, Vodafone has inked a deal with Apple to provide the iPhone mobile phone in 10 countries, one of them is Egypt (in addition to Australia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey).

This will proabaly coincide with the highly-awaited iPhone 2.0 hardware, which is rumored to have 3G connectivity and video capabilities (probably it will be unveiled the Apple WWDC conference in late June).

I think the combination of third-party-enabled iPhone Software (iPhone 2.0 and the iPhone SDK) with the 3G network support, with the already-sexy hardware design will be the main pillars for Apple to reach its 10 million units target at end of 2008.
